The Tory leader David Cameron apologised on the BBC programme ‘The One Show’ for being a fan of northern misery Morrissey. Morrissey was present for the accolade.
Talking amongst a gaggle of celebs, Cameron quipped: “I’m sure when Morrissey finds that he’s getting an endorsement from the leader of the Conservative Party, he will think ‘Heaven knows I’m miserable now,’” referring to one of Morissey’s terrible hits.
Dave continued: “But I’m a big fan, I’m afraid. Sorry about that.”
Morrissey responded somewhat diplomatically: “It’s difficult to make comment because you might hurt people’s feelings.”
Fans are using Twitter, Facebook and MySpace to protest against a copyright law in New Zealand that will give authorities the power to cut the internet connections of those who download music illegally.
Known as the “Guilt Upon Application” law, from February 28th, illegal Kiwi downloaders could loose their internet connection without a trial.
Now the ‘Creative Freedom Foundation’ has launched a campaign to persuade the New Zealand government to drop the law.
The protesters have changed their profile pictures on various social networking sites including Twitter, Facebook and MySpace to a plain black picture as a mark of their protest against the law. Crazy times.
MIA, or Mathangi Maya Arulpragasam to her mother, is the epitome of hip hop cool at the mo especially since she performed while nine months pregnant at the Grammys.
In a striking black net dress, MIA stormed through her single Paper Planes (featured on the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack), before launching into the Jigga man’s Swagga Like Us.
But this is sadly not the story in Sri Lanka where she is portrayed as a cheerleader for “terrorists” – the separatist Tamil Tiger guerrillas – in the country’s civil war.
Nu-metal-knob-jockeys Limp Bizkit have announced they are to reform as the original line-up.
Fred Durst, Wes Borland, Sam Rivers, John Otto and DJ Lethal are back with a new tour and a new album. Guitarist Borland left the band in 2001, returning briefly only to leave again in 2006.
But they have all kissed and made up. In a joint statement, they told NME: “We decided we were more disgusted and bored with the state of heavy popular music than we were with each other. Regardless of where our separate paths have taken us, we recognize there is a powerful and unique energy with this particular group of people we have not found anywhere else. This is why Limp Bizkit is back.”
The Marley family have struck a deal to licence the reggae hero’s name on merchandise. Which to be honest is appalling!
The singer’s image, songs and words will now feature on a range of merchandise including Bob Marley endorsed ventures such as beer, coffee, headphones, hotels, snowboards and cafes. Miserable.
Marley’s eldest daughter, Cedella told BBC News that they are working with private equity firm Hilco to market the products: “We’re open to licensing just about anything. This is a big business for bootleggers. We want to stop some of the nonsense, and make sure the great stuff upholds our standards. We’re in control.”
A taxi driver who rather stupidly let Pete Doherty run up a bill of £1,800 with is selling copies of his blood paintings to pay off the debt.
Justin Cook, who owns Marlborough a cab firm is selling 45 signed copies of what Doherty says is the “best painting” he has ever drawn.
The painting can be seen on Arrowgalleries.com and it depicts a gig at Glastonbury from the crowd’s point of view.
Speaking of the picture, the Babyshambles man revealed he felt an “enormous amount of joy. Even if you’re in a terrible mood and just painting blind, the finished result is something to look at and cherish.”
The British leg of the new Sonisphere festival at Knebworth this summer will feature Metallica and Linkin Park headlining.
The trans-European festival will take place across two stages, with stage times organised so that only one band is playing at once, so fans can go back and forth between acts. Geniuses!
The Knebworth leg of the bash will be on August 1st and 2nd, with Mastodon and Lamb Of God as the only other acts to be confirmed so far.
