Kate Moss is planning to go “wild” at Glastonbury festival.

Filed under: Music — admin @ 4:03 pm

The supermodel has splashed out on six £500 VIP tickets for the world famous music event in Somerset, England, this weekend and is determined to enjoy herself.

A source said: “Kate is a rock goddess and plans to have a wild time - she doesn’t do things by half. She’s on Lily Allen’s VIP list so it’s free drinks all the way.”

However, Kate’s ex-boyfriend Pete Doherty is playing at the festival - which started last night (25.06.09) - and friends say she is intent on avoiding him.

The source added to Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper: “Her ex Pete is on the bill - if she sees him, she will steer well clear.”

Kate - who had her hair cut before going to Glastonbury - has also splashed out on a buggy to ferry her and her pals around the site.

Kate and Lily became friends in January after the model came to the ‘Smile’

star’s concert at London’s Roundhouse venue.

They then enjoyed a shopping spree together before spending time at Paris Fashion Week.

The news of Michael Jackson’s death brings to a close the story of arguably the greatest entertainer of the last 30 years.

Filed under: Music — admin @ 4:02 pm

Michael died after reportedly suffering cardiac arrest at his home in Los Angeles yesterday (25.06.09). An emergency 911 call was made at 12.30pm from Michael’s home, and he is believed to have been in a coma when he arrived at hospital.

Although the musician had a turbulent life, he was unrivalled not only in record sales for a solo artist, but in terms of his constant innovation, dedication, and mastery of the pop single.

Born the seventh of eight children into a performing family in 1958, Michael sang with his brothers from the age of seven in the group the Jackson Five, masterminded by his father Joe Jackson.

The group quickly became established as a major force in soul music with songs such as ‘I Want You Back’, ‘ABC’ and ‘I’ll Be There’ and Michael was fronting the band by the age of 11. His juvenile charm, signature dance moves and huge voice quickly set Michael apart from his brothers and by 1971 he had signed a solo record deal.

Four successful albums followed, but it was after a stint acting in musical film ‘The Wiz’ that Michael was spotted by producer Quincy Jones.

Michael and Quincy formed a formidable duo and between them created a trilogy of albums which established Michael as the biggest star on the planet and greatest pop musician of his generation.

Their first album together, in 1978, ‘Off The Wall’ mixed disco with pop, resulting in huge hits including ‘Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough’ and ‘Wanna Be Starting Something’.

It was on 1982’s ‘Thriller’, however, that Michael - after recording demos of hundreds of songs - created what has been described as the perfect pop album, mixing together, soul, disco, rock and a myriad of other genres. It eventually went on to become the biggest selling album of all time, with sales to date of over 100 million copies worldwide.

Opening with dancefloor classic ‘Billie Jean’ and including the classic lead single ‘Thriller’, seven of the album’s nine tracks were eventually released as singles in Michael’s native US, which all reached the top ten of the singles chart.

Importantly ‘Thriller’ also established Michael - through its music videos - as a staple on the newly created MTV station, which over the next decade would prove to become a huge cultural influence and force across the world.

Michael also enjoyed huge success with his 1987 ‘Bad’ album, again with Quincy producing, which is also regarded as a landmark in pop history.

Huge budget pop videos and tours followed, ensuring Michael’s place as the biggest pop star of his generation.

The singer managed to live up to his albums’ success with his spectacular live shows, which saw him pull off incredible dance moves, including the ‘moonwalk’ in which he appeared to slide backwards across the surface of the stage.

Although controversy grew around the star’s seemingly changing appearance, including his skin appearing whiter - an issue he blamed on a skin disease and treatment for burns suffered after his hair caught on fire while filming a TV commercial - Michael’s next album, 1991’s ‘Dangerous’, was also well received. It enjoyed a number one single around the world in ‘Black Or White’ and earned rave reviews.

However, the world tour in support of the album didn’t go well and was abandoned before its conclusion. This marked a turning point in the star’s career, as his erratic behaviour attracted more headlines than his music.

In 1993, Michael was accused of sexual abuse by 13-year-old Jordan Chandler.

Michael’s relationship with children had already sparked media scrutiny when it was revealed he allowed youngsters to stay overnight as his Neverland ranch, in California - the mansion complete with a zoo and theme park.

Michael eventually settled out of court with the Chandler family in January

1994 for $22 million.

The rumours about his sexual behavior wouldn’t go away and in 2003 he was once again accused of child molestation, although this time the case did make it to court. The singer faced a total of 10 charges all of which he vehemently denied. He was later acquitted of all charges.

Michael’s 1995 album ‘HIStory’ and the long-delayed ‘Invincible’ in 2001 were strong sellers, but with no tour support faded from the public’s attention quicker than others in Jackson’s career.

At the time of his death Michael was preparing for a phenomenal 50-date comeback residency at London’s O2 arena - dubbed ‘This Is It’.

Tickets for the dates - rumoured to be his last - sold out within hours and the shows were tipped to be of a scale never previously seen from the star.

Florence Welch never drinks alcohol before she performs.

Filed under: Music — admin @ 4:46 pm

The Florence and the Machine singer got so drunk at one of her first concerts, she vowed to always stay sober in the future.

The redheaded beauty said: “The worst gig that I’ve ever done was in Brighton. It was one of my first gigs, and I thought - naively - that the way to do a really good gig was to be the drunkest.

“I’ve learnt now that that is not the way forward. I say, get drunk after and not before, you want to be able to remember it. But gosh, it was terrible.

“I was on last and I just got up in a fairy dress, completely off my face, throwing drinks around, swearing, it was horrible. I got into so much trouble with my guitarist for that. It was not my proudest moment.”

Florence’s debut album ‘Lungs’ is due for release next month and she is nervous, but excited.

She explained to Clickmusic: “Do you know what, in some ways I think that all the nervousness and the angst that’s built up, I feel like it’s a bit of a release, really. I think once it’s out there, I’ll be like, what’s all the fuss about.

“What I’m really looking forward to is the fans buying it, and being able to listen to everything, and then when I play live they’ll be able to sing it back to me and stuff, which I’m really excited about.”

Tom Clarke thinks Liam Gallagher is “a proper gent”.

Filed under: Music — admin @ 4:46 pm

The Enemy frontman - who was branded a “little f***er” by the Oasis singer after he reportedly claimed the ‘Wonderwall’ hitmakers were “past it” - was impressed with the way Liam handled their feud.

As soon as The Enemy joined Oasis on tour after Tom recovered from a bout of food poisoning, the outspoken singer and his brother Noel made a beeline for the ‘Away From Here’ star.

Tom said: “Liam came up to me straight up to me. As soon as I got there and got over my little illness, he made sure I knew the score. He’s a proper gent and Noel is the most normal bloke in the world, who happens to have written some of the best songs ever.”

Despite this, Tom admits he wishes he was just an ordinary fan in the crowd when Oasis perform, because he doesn’t have a good view from backstage.

He told XFM radio: “I’ve watched them from the side of the stage, but to be honest it’s better watching them out the front. The fans have the best seats. You’ve got to be out there, steaming, singing the songs.”

Maximo Park have defended Glastonbury’s decision to feature older headline acts.

Frontman Paul Smith - who will open the festival on Thursday (25.06.09) afternoon with his bandmates - can’t wait for this weekend because he loves the diversity the legendry music event brings.

He said: “I’m a massive fan of Neil Young, all his stuff is great so to be able to see him perform all of his material will be amazing. It’s a shame he is on at the same time as Animal Collective though as I’d love to see them too.

“That’s the thing with Glastonbury, it seems to be defined by the media by the headline acts but if you wander around the fields you can see so much interesting stuff in the dance tents or the African music that plays.”

Earlier this year, festival organizer Michael Eavis was criticised for inviting a range of veteran performers - including Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band and Welsh singer Tom Jones - to play at the renowned Somerset festival.

Paul has revealed his group are planning to play a set-list specially chosen by fans.

He explained to Gigwise: “We opened it up online and I think we’re going to find out the results soon and do a little practice if we’ve got to play any older stuff.

Oasis have blasted “ridiculous” Duffy.

Filed under: Music — admin @ 4:28 pm

Brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher have hit out at the ‘Warwick Avenue’

singer - who recently filmed an advert for Diet Coke - saying she was “invented”.

Oasis frontman Liam said: “Duffy was alright until she opened her mouth. The music is OK until she did that stupid advert and things like that. It’s ridiculous.”

His brother, guitarist Noel, added: “Good luck to her, she’s a nice girl but you just feel like it’s been invented.

“It’s like they’ve said, ‘Amy Winehouse, she’s got a black beehive, we’ll do a blonde one.

“That’s the problem with the musical landscape, everyone’s got clipboards.”

Liam recently spoke out about the technical problems which caused the opening night of the group’s current UK tour to be delayed by 40 minutes.

The rockers offered fans at the Manchester show a refund and despite his annoyance, the ‘Live Forever’ star admitted he prefers chaotic performances because the group normally “don’t do that much”.

He said: “I like s**t like that, as long as no-one dies or gets hurt or gets the f**king fever because they’re too cold.

“I like it when s**t happens like that because I think once you have seen Oasis once, you have sort of seen we don’t really do that much.”

Johnny Marr ruined a family holiday by writing a song.

Filed under: Music — admin @ 3:18 pm

The guitarist was so preoccupied with remembering a tune he began writing at the beginning of a trip, he made everyone else “miserable” by refusing to forget about it.

He said: “I started writing a Johnny Marr and the Healers song when I went on holiday one time, I started writing it when I was checking in and then I had to remember it for two weeks while I was away.

“I had a really dreadful holiday, every day I was trying to remember this song and made life miserable for everyone I was with. I had to wait until I got back to put it down.”

However, when Johnny was finally able to compose the song properly, he ended up disappointed.

He explained: “We came back and I got out of the taxi, rushed into the house and got a guitar and I played it straight away. and it was absolutely awful.”

Johnny - who is currently a member of The Cribs, having previously been in The Smiths, Modest Mouse and Electronic - admits he often writes new music in unusual places.

He said: “I’ve written a couple of songs on airplanes, I wrote a song in the doctors waiting room once - it was a Smiths song, the music for ‘Stretch Out and Wait’ - luckily for me I’ve got a pretty good memory for chords.”

Courtney Love is resurrecting her band Hole.

Filed under: Music — admin @ 3:18 pm

The wild rocker has ditched plans to release a solo album after deciding the tracks for the proposed record were more suited to her old band.

Courtney has now replaced founding Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson with British musician Micko Larkin - who previously was a member of Larrikin Love - while original bassist Melissa Auf Der Mar will provide backing vocals on the LP, titled ‘Nobody’s Daughter’.

Courtney said: “The record’s gone from being an aspiration of Bob Dylan’s ‘Blood On The Tracks’ and David Bowie’s ‘Diamond Dogs’. The guitars weren’t as fat and fabulous as they should have been. It’s now a huge fist-shaped Hole!”

Although the blonde musician - the widow of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain - has ditched two versions of the album and been working on it for around four years, she insists she will not copy Axl Rose and take 14 years to make an LP.

She added: “I’m not sitting here making ‘Chinese Democracy’. I’ve had a lot of slings and arrows.”

Paris Hilton has been voted the celebrity campers would least like to share a tent with.

Paris Hilton has been voted the celebrity campers would least like to share a tent with.

A survey of more than 500 music festival attendees has found that 48 per cent of people would rather sleep outside than share their square of canvas with the hotel heiress.

According to the poll - conducted by camping company Tangerine Fields - people would prefer to cuddle up to fascist British politician Nick Griffin, Peaches Geldof or Babyshambles singer Pete Doherty than the blonde beauty.

On the other side of the spectrum, 40 per cent of campers would eagerly open their sleeping bags to ‘Public Enemies’ star Johnny Depp.

Depp easily beat hunky TV personality Steve Jones and ‘X-Men Origins:

Wolverine’ star Hugh Jackman, who came second and third with 24 and 8 per cent of the vote respectively.

British TV presenter Alexa Chung - who is dating Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner - was the most popular female, winning 20 per cent of the vote, followed by Ronnie Wood’s Russian lover Ekaterina Ivanova (16 per cent) and supermodel Kate Moss (8 per cent).

Indie singer/songwriter Jack Penate was voted the most fun around a campfire with 44 per cent of the vote, followed by Kings of Leon (24 per cent) and Blur (12 per cent).

Tangerine Fields’ poll of celebrities campers would least like to share their tent with:

1. Paris Hilton, 48 per cent

2. Nick Griffin, 32 per cent

3. Peaches Geldof, 24 per cent

4. Pete Doherty, 16 per cent

5. Steve Jones, 8 per cent

6. Ekaterina Ivanova, 4 per cent

Fleet Foxes find complaints about illegal downloading “disgusting”.

Filed under: Music — admin @ 4:23 pm

The group don’t understand why musicians are unhappy about fans obtaining their music from the internet for free and urge people to take their music however they want.

Singer Robin Pecknold said: “I don’t care abut piracy, I downloaded hundreds and hundreds of records, why should I care if someone take ours? That’s a really petty thing to care about, how much money do I need? I think it’s disgusting when people complain about that. I’m up for illegal downloads, absolutely.”

The frontman insists that the easy availability of music these days can only be beneficial to the industry.

He added to BANG Showbiz: “I think as much music as you can hear - especially for musicians - will only make music better and we’re seeing that now in terms of new bands, they’re doing way better now and making better music now than before.”
